About us

Stepping Into Service (SIS) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to empower black institutions, communities, and people. Though special attention is given to HBCUs and their students, we recognize our reach can extend beyond this collective.

Our goal

Serve as a vehicle of change by implementing cultural, political, and socially charged initiatives that drive our mission.

As an HBCU grad, I understand the importance of us ensuring that we financially support our HBCUs. It's imperative we make sure they're around to educate generations to come. It is so vital that we invest in us, and that's what we're doing with Stepping Into Service."

Keshia Knight Pulliam Co-Founder

HBCUs are treasures of the Black existence in our country and are increasingly becoming a lost gem. And, as a community, we’re losing an excellent resource.

Dr. Donald M. Henderson PhD in Sociology and the first and only black Provost of the University of Pittsburgh, of HBCUs. His academic career began at Central State University, a public, historically black land-grant university in Wilberforce, Ohio.
